Description
A view of Lake Michigan in early winter. The State of Michigan historical marker on-site states that this site once overlooked the warehouse and two piers of the village of Pier Cove. It was once hailed as "the busiest port between St. Joseph and Muskegon." With the exhaustion of the lumber supply in the late 1860s, the fire of 1871 and moving the sawmill to the railroad at Fennville, Pier Cove's prosperity diminished. Commercial activity ceased in 1917.
